RISK ASSESSMENTS

Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, you have a legal duty to prepare written risk assessments. All our risk assessments are prepared in an easy to follow manner using photographs. Where applicable, we will provide practical guidance on remedial actions necessary to control the hazard.

DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES AND EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES REGULATIONS

Certain substances, because of their properties or the way in which they are used, have the potential to cause fires or explosive atmospheres. Cope advisors will carry out the necessary risk assessments, advise on specialist equipment to be used and undertake the classification of premises and substances.

ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING

In order to protect the environment and the health of your employees you have a duty to undertake monitoring of dust, noise and vibration levels, use of solvents etc. Any extract equipment provided, (LEV) must be tested every 14 months to ensure it is operating correctly. Most types of monitoring and assessments will require specialist equipment and training.

MANAGEMENT OF ASBESTOS IN PREMISES

If you own or are responsible for maintenance or repairs of commercial premises you must identify all asbestos containing materials and prepare a management plan to reduce the risk of asbestos. Cope asbestos surveyors hold British Institute of Occupational Health certificate P402, for surveying and sampling asbestos containing materials in buildings. Cope have full professional indemnity cover to undertake asbestos survey work and advise on all asbestos related issues.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

If you, or one of your employees, have an accident at a work, you may be required by law to report this to the Health and Safety Executive. We can carry out this work on your behalf, in a prompt and efficient manner, producing a detailed accident report suitable for insurance purposes etc.

RACKING INSPECTIONS

The Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) Code of Practice for the use of static pallet racking specifies that formal inspections of racking systems are carried out every 12 months. Our easy to follow inspection form will provide evidence that you are undertaking your duty to ensure the safety of both employees and customers visiting your premises.

DISPLAY SCREEN EQUIPMENT

Employers have a duty to assess work stations containing display screen equipment, (computers and PC's), in order to prevent ill effects such as upper limb pain and discomfort, eye strain and stress and fatigue. Cope will provide you with documentary evidence that risk assessments are being carried out and offer practical advice to ensure your work force do not suffer.

FIRE PRECAUTIONS

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order requires employers to address a number of areas of fire safety in the workplace: fire fighting and detection equipment; emergency routes and exits; maintenance of equipment. Cope will carry out a full fire assessment of your workplace and advise accordingly.
